Dates announced for 2012 regional conferences

6 July 2012 - Five regional conferences specialising in Alzheimer's disease and other dementias will take place across the world between September and November this year. The conferences, which will be held in Africa, Europe, Latin America, Asia Pacific and the Middle East, provide an opportunity to establish and strengthen networks and channels of communication with emphasis on region-specific issues, practices and culture. Alzheimer's Australia NSW launch third 'It's not a's dementia' film

14 June 2012 - Alzheimer's Australia NSW have launched the third short film produced as part of a series under the heading It's not a's dementia. The film, spoken in Khmer with English subtitles, centres on the Cambodian community and aims to encourage acceptance of dementia as a medical condition and not a normal part of ageing. [read more]

Help us with the World Alzheimer Report 2012

1 June 2012 - As part of the development of the World Alzheimer Report 2012, to be launched on 21 September, ADI is currently conducting a survey of people with dementia and family carers to find out their opinion and experience of stigma related to dementia. The information gained from the survey will feed into the report. If you are a person with dementia or family carer, you can take part in the survey here in English, Spanish or Chinese (Simplified characters).

World Health Assembly report

29 May 2012 - ADI attended the WHO's World Health Assembly in Geneva from 21-26 May. ADI's presence this year was of particular importance as the agenda included a discussion on implementing a global strategy for prevention and control of non-communicable diseases, following on from the United Nations High Level meeting last September. Levels of dementia underestimated in developing countries

23 May 2012 - Conventional estimates of dementia incidence in middle-income countries have been too optimistic, suggests one of the largest studies of dementia incidence to date from ADI's 10/66 Dementia Research Group, published online in The Lancet today. [read more]

ADI at the World Health Assembly

22 May 2012 - ADI has started a week of advocacy efforts at the sixty-fifth annual meeting of the World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland. Discussions during this year's meeting are integral to furthering the call for more to be done to address non-communicable diseases, including dementia. [read more]

National Alzheimer's Plan Released in USA

15 May 2012 - The US government has released a national plan to fight Alzheimer’s disease, following the signing of the National Alzheimer's Project Act last year. The plan was developed with input from experts in aging and Alzheimer’s disease issues and calls for a comprehensive, collaborative approach across federal, state, private and non-profit organizations. More than 3,600 people or organizations submitted comments on the draft plan. [read more]
