Safely Home partnership for Alzheimer Society of Canada

12 July 2013 - The Alzheimer Society of Canada has forged a new partnership with Canadian MedicAlert Foundation to improve the safety of people with dementia across the country. $104 million for Alzheimer's disease in US Senate funding bill

12 July 2013 - The Alzheimer's Association in the USA welcomed on Tuesday the decision of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies' to allocate an additional $104 million for Alzheimer's disease in their funding bill. The funding, if the bill is approved, will go towards research, education, outreach and carer support. [read more]

ADI 2013 conference presentations now available

Presentations from the 28th International Conference of Alzheimer's Disease International are now available. Topics covered at the event, which took place in Taipei in April 2013, include challenges for the global health system, quality of life for people with dementia and carers, and prevention and risk factors for dementia. National dementia plan confirmed for Peru

17 May 2013 - A new Peruvian law, passed this week, set in motion the development of a national dementia plan for Peru, the first of its kind within the Latin American region. The law states that a plan is to be developed by the country's Ministry of Health within the next 90 days. [read more]

ReadSpeaker enables the ADI website to be read out loud to you

15 May 2013 - The ADI website now features ReadSpeaker, a text-to-speech service which allows the main content of webpages to be read out loud to you. On most pages on the website, there is a Listen button near the top of the page. Clicking the button will launch a small audio player and ReadSpeaker will start reading the text of the webpage out loud. [Find out more]

UK government targets global effort on dementia

15 May 2013 - The UK government has announced that it will use its Presidency of the G8 to develop an international approach to collaboration on dementia research. A G8 dementia summit will take place in September to secure greater coordination. [read more]

USA study: 1 in 8 report increasing confusion or memory loss

13 May 2013 - New results from a study in the USA have shown that one in eight adults aged 60 and over report increased confusion or memory loss in the previous 12 months. This is according to data just released from 21 US states that used the optional Cognitive Module as part of the 2011 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS). [read more]
