ADI launches 'Help for caregivers' booklet in Athens, Greece

7 March 2016 - Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI) and the Greek Federation of Alzheimer’s Associations launched the ‘Help for Caregivers’ booklet at the Athens Meropeion Foundation on Monday, 7 March 2016.

The event drew attention to the plight of caregivers supporting people with dementia through the release of the booklet, which will be distributed to individuals, groups, organisations or institutions anywhere in Greece free of charge via the network of The Greek Federation of Alzheimer’s Associations.

The booklet was developed in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), and the launch event was sponsored by the John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation and TIMA Charitable Foundation.

There are currently 197,000 people with dementia in Greece, a number that is estimated to rise to 365,000 by 2050. With two family members often acting as carers for each individual with dementia, the number of those immediately affected by the disease reaches almost 400,000 people.
