Mentoring programmes

"The collaboration was beneficial as it helped us gather key issues and concerns to explore possible new initiatives, understand our ability to work effectively in groups/ teams and develop an attitude that instils self-awareness, commitment to lifelong learning and openness to change." Nilanjana Maulik describing her visit to the UK in 2001, for the staff exchange programme between the UK and India.

Alzheimer's Disease International (ADI) provides member Alzheimer associations with the opportunity to exchange ideas and practice. Partnerships between members have been successful in helping organisations learn the skills essential to running an effective Alzheimer association for people with dementia and their carers.

The partnership between the New Mexico, USA and South Africa helped both association to reach previously unreached groups in society. Visiting New Mexico gave staff from South Africa the chance to gain an understanding of the native American community's approach to dementia, which helped them approach their own indigenous groups "with new eyes and ears". Hearing about the challenges of South Africa gave the Americans a new perspective into how to meet the needs of their indigenous people and growing Latino communities. The exchange resulted in the two groups presenting their experiences and learning points at a "reaching unreached audiences" workshop at the World Alzheimer's Congress 2000.
