Help for carers

This section of the website is aimed at those who care for people with dementia.

We must remember that not only does this disease affect the person with dementia, but it also affects everyone around that person. Carers, family members and friends can all be deeply upset by the progression of dementia in someone they care about.

As a caregiver you will see the disease progress and become more a part of your life. You will want to know answers to many questions associated with dementia. This section tries to provide those answers and offers advice for carers looking after someone with dementia.

The main material in this section of the website is taken from the 'Help for Caregivers' booklet, available to download, and from 'Alzheimer's and other Dementias: Answers at your Fingertips', a book which is available in full online at www.ttmed.com/dementia, and also in print from Class Publishing, ISBN 9781859591482.

The development of the content for this section of the site was originally sponsored by development grants from Novartis Foundation for Gerontology and Novartis Pharma. 'Alzheimer's and other Dementias: Answers at your Fingertips', is by Harry Cayton (former chief executive of Alzheimer's Society), Dr Nori Graham (consultant in old age psychiatry and former chairman of Alzheimer's Disease International) and Dr James Warner (senior lecturer in psychiatry, London).
