World Alzheimer's Day 2000

Quality of life

The concept of 'quality of life' has gained widespread use in the health care sector over recent years. People with dementia experience declining cognitive abilities which cannot be reversed. Even so, there is much that can be done to maintain and improve a person with dementia and their carers quality of life.

The theme this year explored various issues around quality of life including What is quality of life? How can it be assessed? What influences it? How can it be enhanced?
