Ruben Torres

As a marine biologist, Ruben Torres works full time trying to save coral reefs around the Dominican Republic, in the centre of the Caribbean region. From a young age he has greatly enjoyed being outdoors, taking part in hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, cross country, scuba diving, wind and kite surfing, among other sports and activities. Has climbed many of DR's mountains, including the highest peak in the Caribbean, Pico Duarte (3,097m). Along with his best friends, he was able to accomplish the record of climbing to the top of the ten highest mountains of DR in just ten days.
Recently, they came back from Africa, where they were the first Dominicans to reach the summits of Mt Kilimanjaro (5,695m) and Mt Kenya (5,199 m). Ruben is currently training to compete in the adventure race Florida Coast to Coast in May 2006 and to then go back to Kilimanjaro for this very important cause. Planned expeditions for the future include South America's highest point, Aconcagua.
Ruben was recently asked by the Dominican Alzheimer's Association to join the World Team and help local efforts to create awareness and raise funds for dementia.
